A stock portfolio alert is an alert that is issued for a specified type of stock. The alert can be set to notify you of the stock price, whether it has changed, or to notify you if the price goes above or below a certain threshold. You can perform the following tasks when working with stock alerts:
Adding a stock portfolio alert
When adding a stock portfolio alert, specify the stock you want to monitor as well as the criteria for when the alert should be sent.
A stock symbol is the unique combination of letters used to identify a company's stock on the various stock exchanges. For example, the stock symbol for Sybase is SY.
Enter the stock symbol in the stock symbol box to specify the stock for which you want an alert issued.
The criteria and dollar value determine when an alert needs to be issued for a particular stock. Click the criteria you want satisfied for the alert to be issued. Choose one of the following:
Any Amount– an alert is issued at the specified frequency for the specified stock, regardless of the dollar value of the stock.
More Than– an alert is issued if the dollar value of the specified stock rises above the specified amount.
Less Than – if the dollar value of the specified stock falls below the specified amount.
Click the radio button to choose how often you want to be notified of an alert condition. This can be either one time only, in which case you only receive one alert regardless of how long the alert condition is present, or once per day in which case you are sent one alert per day, for each day that the alert condition is present.
Click Save. The new alert is shown in the Current Stock Portfolio Alerts list.
Editing a stock portfolio alert
You can edit an existing stock portfolio alert to change the stock symbol or alert criteria that determine when an alert is issued.
Click the Edit icon beside the alert in the Current Stock Portfolio Alerts list. The information for that transaction alert appears in the Add/Edit Alerts: Stock Portfolio Alertarea of the page.
